80’s Metal/Hair Bands
Season 8 of ‘That Metal Show’ started taping this week in Los Angeles, California and METAL SHOP Rocks was invited to attend the opener by our friends at VH1 Classic.
On July 26th, we made our way to the studio to see Lars Ulrich (Metallica) and Sammy Hagar (Chicken Foot/Van Halen) discuss many topics with host Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jameson. Special guest guitar master was none other than Alex Skolnick (Testament).
As the show was being recorded, a few other surprise guests showed up to play ‘Stump the Trunk.’ The questions were asked by Chris Jericho (Fozzy), Chip Znuff (Enuff Z’Nuff) and Steven Adler (Guns N’ Roses).
METAL SHOP will also be attending the final taping of the season. Scheduled guests are Scott Ian and Charlie Benante from Anthrax, so stay tuned… here are a few photos I was able to snap of the show.

‘Where Have All The Good Times Gone?’ For a David Lee Roth fan, we now know.
In 1999, Greg Aulick took pictures of Roth’s performance in Austin, Texas with a disposable camera, but lost it after partying a little too hard.
12 years later, that camera is being returned thanks to Facebook and YouTube. Read More
Frank Sinatra may well be spinning in his grave over the heavy metal hijacking of a dozen cornerstone numbers from his repertoire for “Sin-atra,” but given the testosterone-drenched machismo that was central to the way he lived his life and sometimes sang, there’s actually a certain twisted logic to this shotgun marriage. You might remember this British trio as hair metal second-stringers from the 80’s, but they actually came together in 1974. They’re at their best playing the kind of fierce hard rock that marks them out as contemporaries of Judas Priest—their proto-thrash attack is good enough to make me forgive those schlocky 80s records and the rather dumb gimmick they once used of playing in athletic gear.
Cursed with a Spinal Tap-like career trajectory, Raven almost dropped the thread altogether back in 2001, when guitarist Mark Gallagher nearly lost his legs after a wall collapsed on him. The band went on hiatus while Gallagher rehabbed, eventually regrouping to record 2010’s Walk Through Fire (Metal Blade), a hard-earned and intense return to form.

QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate stars in the psychological thriller “The Burningmoore Incident”. The film focuses on the murderous rampage that took place in March 2010 in Bayside, Queens, as the construction team of Cole Contracting was being video taped by multiple cameras on the first day of what was to be a home makeover reality show. By sundown the house was a bloody scene of carnage.
Longtime admirers of Geoff’s onstage theatrics and commanding presence, Fires At Midnight Films, found him to be a perfect fit as the film’s unstoppable killing machine. Geoff also contributed an exclusive new track to the film.

You may have heard Judas Priest announce recently their 2011-12 Epitaph world tour would be the last… ever. The roadtrip will end, but fortunately, not the band. In fact, Priest is working on a new album right now.
Checking the official Judas Priest website, we found the message – “The guys are working together on writing new material – all is going really well”.
In another post, Guitarist Glenn Tipton also explained further his group’s future plans: “To put everyone’s mind at rest, this is by no means the end of the band. In fact, we are presently writing new material, but we do intend this to be the last major world tour.”
The Epitaph world tour begins June 7th in Eindhaar, Tilburg, Holland.
Ozzy Osbourne and Guitar master Slash made a special appearance Monday, January 10, 2011 at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California. Both rock Icons were in attendance to sign a 10-foot Gibson Guitar and to announce they will be teaming up for an upcoming U.S. tour. The first minute was filmed sideways, but I was able to get some video from this event. Special thanks to Angela and MSOPR for making this happen for METAL SHOP. -Ralph
